Whats good y’all! I came across an article about a proposed “Water Safety” bill for the state of Florida. I think this is pretty cool. The concept is not new but for the state to approve a bill like this would be the beginning of possibly changing the public's view about these concerns. Or at least making the public take the underlying problem at hand more seriously. Hopefully, it will also make swim lessons more affordable and water safety classes/presentation more available.
This bill was proposed back in March. The official name of the bill is Water Safety and Swimming Certification for K-12 Students. I do not believe that this will be a mandate, however you may feel about that, but it would require schools to ask parents/ legal guardians about whether or not their student has had swimming lessons. It will also require the school to provide certain information regarding this including information about swim lessons or water safety resources. When the bill goes into effect, this should start with the 2022 – 2023 school year.
I will link, the article that I read as well as the water safety bill information. I believe policies like this and the ones to follow will play an important role in keeping our youth safe in and around bodies of water!
